For years there has been many discussions and arguments on who’s better out of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. To successfully break down this argument you would have to look at the two elite quarterbacks’ history with their team. What I mean by that, you would have to look at the time period were Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady was sidelined with an injury and see how their team responded to it.
During the 2008 NFL season, Tom Brady went down with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite not having their Pro Bowl quarterback at the helm running the offense, backup Matt Cassel took over the duties as the starting quarterback and took the team to an 11-5 record. Even though they did not make it to the playoffs, this season was still considered an amazing year. We saw something similar when Tom Brady was suspended the first four games of the 2016 season due to the deflate-gate incident that occurred during the 2015 season. Having Jacoby Brissett and Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback played a huge factor in the New England Patriots having a comfortable 3-1 record when Tom Brady was reinstated.
On the other hand, Aaron Rodgers did not have the benefit of having the teammates Tom Brady had over the years. During the 2013 season, Aaron Rodgers fractured his collarbone, and this had many Packers fans and NFL analyst fearing that the Packers dreams of making the playoffs were practically over. But Aaron Rodgers shocked sports fans all around the world when he made his epic return against the Chicago Bears, where if the Packers would win the game, they would make it to the playoffs. Rodgers did not disappoint throwing from an amazing 318 yards with two touchdowns and secured the Packers spot in the playoffs with a victory over the Bears. A similar situation occurred when Aaron Rodgers broke his collarbone again this past season against the Minnesota Vikings. Having Brent Hundley as a replacement did not fare well for the Packers since they finished with a 3-7 record without Rodgers and failed to make it to the playoffs last season.
No disrespect to future Hall of Famer Tom Brady but he is more of a system quarterback were as if you have an average quarterback at the helm for the Patriots, they will be a decent team in the AFC East. In no way am I bashing Tom Brady because he is hands down one of the best quarterbacks in the game right now, but you have wonder sometimes would he still have his five Super Bowl Wins and perhaps still be considered the best quarterback ever if he was placed into Rodgers situation or an even worst situation.
Aaron Rodgers has not had the benefit of having the weapons Brady had over the years, but if he did, he would hand’s down be considered one of the best quarterbacks to play this game. As we have seen in the past, Aaron Rodgers is more important to his team than Tom Brady is to his, because without Rodgers the Packers are like a car with no battery their just not going anywhere. These two quarterbacks will most definitely go down as the best to ever play the game of football but for years to come fans will still disagree on who’s better out of these two amazing football players.
